MyInfo 8.5.5 released

MyInfo 8.5.5 is now available! This update focuses on reliability, with nearly 30 fixes covering notebook saving, backups, crash recovery, and everyday workflows.

Some of the most important improvements happen behind the scenes, helping MyInfo handle unexpected errors and interruptions more gracefully. Let's take a look!

Safer Notebook Saving

One of the biggest improvements in MyInfo 8.5.5 is how it handles notebook saving errors. We've fixed several issues that could cause saving to fail or leave MyInfo in an inconsistent state.

MyInfo now handles these situations more safely:

  • No partial saves: If a write fails, for example because the disk is full or a notebook file is locked, the entire change is discarded instead of being partially saved.
  • Better error reporting: Failed notebook saves are now reported instead of going unnoticed.
  • Fewer save failures: MyInfo now waits longer for busy notebook files, while backups hold them for shorter periods. This reduces conflicts during backups or when working with shared notebooks.
  • Improved error recovery: An error during a command no longer prevents subsequent notebook saves during the same session.

We've also fixed issues where unsuccessful changes could still affect search results or undo history, keeping them consistent with what's actually saved.

Better Backups & Recovery

We've made several improvements to protect your notebooks when something unexpected happens:

  • Restoring a notebook from backup no longer risks corruption if a journal file was left behind by a previous crash.
  • Adding or removing a notebook password now keeps a backup during file replacement and properly reports errors.
  • Interrupted notebook upgrades no longer repeat already completed upgrade steps.
  • MyInfo now creates a backup copy of your notebook before a major file format upgrade.

Fewer Crashes & Interruptions

This release also addresses several crashes and situations where MyInfo could become unresponsive:

  • Fixed a "Bad Image" startup error caused by Windows 11 Smart App Control blocking a MyInfo component.
  • Closing one of several MyInfo windows during an import no longer crashes the app.
  • Closing MyInfo while it is still opening a notebook or note link, or capturing a web clip, no longer crashes the app.
  • Pasting or dropping images into notes that have reached their size limit no longer causes a crash.
  • Opening a link to a note hidden by the Quick Filter no longer crashes MyInfo.
  • Starting MyInfo again while it is still closing no longer causes a crash.

Everyday Workflow Improvements

We've also fixed a number of smaller issues to make regular work with MyInfo smoother:

  • Linked HTML files are now previewed as rendered web pages instead of source code.
  • Cutting notes between notebooks no longer removes the originals if importing them into the destination fails.
  • Failed notebook imports and exports now report errors and no longer leave incomplete data.
  • Several menus and the taskbar progress indicator now work correctly when multiple MyInfo windows are open.
  • Removing a link from selected text now works reliably.
  • Bullet lists from TreePad files are now imported properly.
